Dear Mr. Derrickson,
After your leaving the library yesterday, I looked around and found this marriage which
may be your Thomas.
Thomas Derrickson married Rachel L. Chew in Shelby County May 7, 1840 marriage book 4
page 178.
If I can be of any help to you let me know. My rate is $2.00 per hour and would copy
all the 1830, 1840, and 1850 census data of Derricksons for you in Shelby Co., if you
wanted it. It probably would take about and hour.
Sincerely,
Maurice H.

Dear Lee Derrickson,
This is not something you asked me about, but concerns you so will send it along.
The will of John F. Chew was filed in Shelby Co. Court Jan. 1, 1836. He mentions 4
children; Rachel, Naoma, Rhusinia, and Richard. He also mentions some money due him in
Monongalia Co., Virginia (now WV) The will was dated December 9, 1835 and witnessed by
Samuel and Elias Boldin.
In August of 1838 I note that James Derrickson is guardian of the above four children.
Enclosed is a copy of a page listing New Jersey Soldiers of the Revolutionary War, and which
lists Andrew Derrickson. You may have already seen this, but note that Andrew is from
Gloucester Co.
Maurice H.
Did I send you the 1860 and 1870 entries of Shelby Co. Census? I have them here, but can't
recall if I sent them to you.

Dear Lee Derrickson,
In Complete Record (Probate) Book C page 442 is an entry which states that Elias Foster,
former guardian of Rachel, naomi, Ruesina and Richard (who is what we would call a retarded
child today, but then listed as an idiot) minor heirs of James F. Chew dec. resigns as
he is leaving IN and is replaced by James Derrickson. James Derrickson resigns as to being
guardian of Rachel as she is now married to Thomas P. Derrickson. Entry dated Feb. 1844.
Below are listed the only census entries I find in 1860 and 1870 in Union Township for your
Derricksons;

Dear Lee Derrickson,
Enclosed are the two entries concerning John Derrickson deceased whom it seems likely
is the father of your Thomas P. Derrickson. You will note Thomas P. listed as an heir
of John on the Probate Record and as most of them receive the same sum of they must be
John's children.
Several of the heirs listed on the enclosed deed record are John's grandchildren in all
likelihood. Some of John's children dying before he did.
I note in the Shelby Co. marriage records that John Derrickson married Emily Ray April 19,
1866, and she likely the Emily referred to as the widow on the court record. John's wife
in the 1860 census seems to be Rachel so she may have died between 1860 and 1866 and he
re-married to Emily. Thank you for the six dollars and fifty cents.
Sincerely,
Maurice Holmes
I have listed John's heirs on the deed entry on the back of the photocopies in case you
could not make them all out.

There were more children than the Reverend Mr. Collin recorded here, two daughters were
married, and son William died before March 1, 1786. Fortunately, both John and Mary
Derrickson made wills, abstracts of which are given below.
Mr. Collin gives further data on the Derrickson family:
Jan Dericson, an old, kind and quiet man, who had traded with the English was
pillaged by the militia May, 1778 at Racoon Creek. NOTE BE ARTHUR FISKE: At this
time, John Derrickson was about 54 years old and Mrs. Collin's reference makes him
appear to be a venerable antique!

years old, a good man who had for a long time been a member of the Church Vestry.
