The recipe for my Grandmother's three layer chocolate cake:


Cake:

1 c. Crisco 3 c. sugar
4 eggs 1/2 c. cocoa
3 c. sifted flour1 c. boiling water
1 c. sour milk (add 2 tbsp. vinagar in 1 c. milk) 
2 tsp. baking soda2 tsp. vanilla

Cream Crisco and sugar together. Add beaten eggs. Add baking soda to sour milk. Pour boiling water over cocoa. To Crisco/sugar mix add alternating equal parts sifted flour and milk. Add cocoa mixture and vanilla. Pour into 3 greased, floured cake tins.
Bake at 375 deg. for 30 min.

Frosting:

9 sq. unsweetened chocolate8 tbsp. oleo (margarine)
1 lb. powdered sugar (have extra on hand) Vanilla
1/4 c. milk (have more on hand) 

Melt together chocolate and oleo until shiny and stiff. Stir in alternating parts powdered sugar and milk. Add vanilla.
