Well, I've gotten into riding at the track. I learned an absolute ton about riding. And a really big lesson about not falling down too. :-) Currently, I have two track bikes. One is a 1984 VF500F and if you go here, you can read more about it. I am also on a mailing list for the same bike and it's available here to join or read or whatever. It's got about 50 people on it, about half of which use theirs as commuters and the other half race/sport etc with them. My other track bike was Sophia, a 1998 Ducati 748. Is this too expensive a bike to crash? Absolutely. Is it very good for my license not to ride her on the street much if at all. Absolutely. This is a new decision for this year as I just never rode her at all last year. Make sure you check her out under the Ducati section. Since this was written, I've traded it for a ST4, Sophia is mine no longer.
The most amazing thing I learned at the track was when I took Jason Pridmore's STAR school. This was unbelievable. If you make a 10 to 20% gain in just going to the track for a couple times (and you do, trust me), then you easily make that in one day of his school. Absolutely fantastic, learned just amazing amounts of riding things that apply in everyday riding in addition to track. I'm going back for sure. There is also Reg Pridmore's CLASS schools (Jason's dad) and Keith Code's Superbike School. Pick one, I can't imagine you won't learn anything. Make sure you also check out the Gear page for some of the stuff I wear at the track and works for me. And check out the Stories page for some writeups about different track schools. |
