Oh yes, we now have a new toy. A 1998 Aprilia RS250 two stroke. This is a race bike for the Aprilia Cup Challenge, it makes about 60 hp at sea level and weighs under 300lbs. It's also a 2 stroke which is going to be a first for me. So I guess we are going to learn a lot about 2 strokes. :-) I bought it from Mototek Imports in Austin, Texas, one of the bigger importers and racers of Aprilias, so I felt pretty good about that even though I was buying it sight unseen which was pretty interesting. This one is silver with red wheels which I think is much cooler than the usual black bikes
After a couple hours of going through and trying to figure out where stuff went and laughing about what a total race bike it is, we got it running .
However, in going out one last time before CLASS, I went in to change tires and noticed the front forks where the pinch bolts are was cracked. All the way through. This is bad. Called Mototek, they got a new fork leg shipped out, but it didn't' arrive till the night before class, and I didn't feel like thrashing on it all night long. So, that weekend I took the bike apart (you gotta love real race bikes, the forks come off in about 10 minutes) and I took the forks into TFOG because I just didn't want to deal with it. All brand new now, but haven't tried it yet. So, make sure you check your fork legs and don't over-tighten the pinch bolts. (10n-m) It's now all safety wired and I think ready to go racing. Not that, umm, I'm, umm, going racing or anything if my Mom is reading this. :-) |
