I had to buy some custom made leathers since you can be short and fat, but you aren't allowed to be tall and fat.  :-)  I know, I know, losing weight is the real solution, but custom leathers was easier.

I looked at Z custom, Vanson, Helimot , and a couple off the shelf ones.  I finally decided to go with Syed because their quality was excellent like the others, but they were cheaper and faster to get them done.  You can get any color pattern you want, just bring money.  Another tall friend had some straight black ones made for him and they look very good and were only 800 bucks.  800 bucks for competition weight, custom leathers is an unbelievable price.  Full competition weight leather and hard armor everywhere.  I got the back protector included so I would have no chance to forget to put it on.  I think this is important, because while they are some much better back protectors, if you forget to put it on it can't help.  Since then though I've bought a Knox back protector for additional insurance.  I'm very impressed with the workmanship and definitely recommend them.

Here's a picture of me in my leathers, the first day back at the track after my crash.  New helmet too, it came about 4 hours before we were to leave.

Now, after about 10 track days, they are finally starting to break in and feel good.  I figure that's a good sign, because anything leather should break in.

I've also upgraded on back protectors now for the track anyway.  I broke down and got a Knox back protector out of England.  It's badged as a Teknic but it's a Knox inside.  good stuff, fits ok, feels much more confident. It's similar to a Bohn, but read this story here about how Bohn ripped off Knox and you can decide which brand you want to buy.
