In these four states there are three shuttles: Shuttle Achilles Portland, OR Shuttle Greywolf Boise, ID Shuttle Sacajawea Great Falls, MT The Shuttle Achilles reported that they have 7 STARFLEET members and the Shuttle Greywolf currently has 13 STARFLEET members, and the Shuttle Sacajawea, I know that back in January had sent their paperwork to their mothership and I haven't heard from them so I have no idea as to what is going on with their group. I do hope that they are doing well. I want to thank the Shuttle Achilles for their including me in those who receive their Monthly Status Report. ShOC FAQ To better answer the multitude of questions regarding the shuttle program, we at ShOC have developed a FAQ for members wanting to learn more. Here is the latest ShOC FAQ... 1. What is a shuttle? A shuttle is a Chapter-in-Training of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. 2. How many STARFLEET members are required for a shuttle? A shuttle must have at least five (5) STARFLEET members in good standing; however, no more than two (2) members from any one family may be counted towards this total. 3. Must the CO and XO have BOTH OTS and OCC prior to shuttle launch? NO. The CO and XO must have passed OTS before launch. OCC must be passed before the shuttle is approved for commissioning. 4. Who does the shuttle report to? When? Generally, a shuttle reports on a monthly basis to the Mothership Commanding Officer, the Regional Coordinator, and ShOC. Some regions have Regional Shuttle Directors and may request a courtesy copy be mailed to them. 5. What is the "50 Kilometer Guideline"? It is a courtesy guideline for launching shuttles 50 km. from the nearest chapter to avoid inter-chapter problems regarding territory. This can be waived at the discretion of the RC and by the Chief of Operations, STARFLEET. 6. What is a "Correspondence Shuttle?" This denotes a chapter-in-training that conducts its business through correspondence. Sometimes geographical location prevents face-to-face meetings of a chapter. Correspondence chapters are another way to take part in the diversity of STARFLEET. 7. What is a "Mothership"? This is the established chapter that supports the shuttle throughout the shuttle program. This is the Vessel Registration Request. It is the application form used to launch and commission as a full-fledged chapter of STARFLEET. It contains all the chapter information regarding the shuttle's members that is required before affiliation is granted by STARFLEET. 9. How many VRRs must a shuttle submit to become a sanctioned (starship) Two. The first (launch) VRR is to be filed prior to launch. The second (commissioning) is to be filed before commissioning. 10.When should a shuttle submit to become a sanctioned (starship) chapter? Generally, this is done about the 5th or 6th month of the shuttle's tenure after all of the requirements 11. What is "S.T.A.R.T."? S.T.A.R.T. stands for "Shuttlecraft Training And Recruitment Techniques". This is the proven nine month program for operating a shuttle in STARFLEET. A lot of the material has been used in various regional programs over the years. 12.What is a "Commissioning Ceremony"? This is usually a formal event wherein the shuttle will achieve independent starship status. It can be a small get together or a large event. Think of it as "Graduation" from the ShOC program. 13.When should a shuttle start planning its Commissioning Ceremony? As soon as the starship VRR has been signed by the Mothership CO and the Regional Coordinator, and mailed to STARFLEET for approval. 14.What is "ShOC" and "DTS"? ShOC stands for "Shuttle Operations Command". This is the branch of STARFLEET that is responsible for the implementation of the shuttle program, as well as the overseeing of shuttles and their operations. DTS is the Department of Technical Services and approves shuttle/ship classes, NCC numbers, etc. 15.How long does the shuttle process take? The START process takes 9 months. This duration may be lengthened at the discretion of the Chief of Shuttlecraft Operations.
