Maryland Point System
The point system in Maryland is as follows :
- Points are active on record for 2 years
- 8 points accumulated in 2 years result in suspension
- 12 points accumulated in 2 years result in revokation
- Any tickets during probation period results in license suspension
- Out-of-State tickets will have no points assessed except for
manslaughter resulting from driving, DUI of drugs or alcohol,
using a motor vehicle in a felony or failing to stop in an
accident resulting in injury or death. Even though points are
not assessed, the violation is still posted to driving record.
- Tickets are reported to non-resident's drivers home state under the
Drivers License Compact.
- Multiple Charge Conviction will receive the point value from
the violation that has the highest point value

Speeding over the Speed Limit
1 to 9 - 1 points
10 to 29 - 2 points
30 or greater or 20 or greater in 65 mph zone - 5 points
1 Point Violations
Any moving violation not listed anywhere else
2 Point Violations
Improper license class
Failing for school vehicle with alternating flashing lights
Moving violation contributing to an accident
Passing an emergency or police vehicle
Violating Section 21-1111
3 Point Violations
Driving after suspension of license under Section 17-106, 26-204, 26-206,
27-103 or traffic law or regulation as described in Section 16-303
Any violation of Section 21-1411 except on JFK Memorial Highway
5 Point Violations
Driving while not licensed
Failure to report an accident
Driving on a learners permit unaccompanied
Violating Section 17-107
Participation in a speed contest or race on a highway
Violating Section 16-304 or 16-305, 22-404.5
8 Point Violations
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Turning off lights of vehicle to avoid identification
Failing to stop in an accident resulting in property damage
Violating Section 16-815 or 16-816
12 Point Violations
Failing to stop in an accident resulting in injury or death
Driving after suspension or revokation as a result of violating
section 17-106, 26-204, 26-206, 27-103 or 16-303 equivalent in another state.
Violating section 16-301, 16-302, 16-804, or 16-808(1) to (9)
Homicide or assault by a motor vehicle
Driving while intoxicated with drugs or alcohol
Felony involving a motor vehicle
Fleeing or eluding a police officer
Prejury in a statement to MVA
