The Big Picture of Pike's Peak (Elevation 14,110 ft)

Pike's Peak is one of the great landmarks here in Colorado. It is located by Colorado Springs. There is a road that leads up to the peak and at the top there is a resturaunt and gift shop. The road is gravel from the 9000 to 10000 ft to the top. Every 4th of July, there is a road race to and from the top where the average speed is about 110 mph and surprisingly, very few people are killed or hurt. Another way to the top of Pike's Peak is to ride the Cog Railway. You get to sit back and enjoy the ride to the top and not have to worry about driving off the cliff or dirtying up your car going up the gravel road.

Mount Evans (Elevation 14,236 ft) is another mountain that you can drive up to the peak as well. It is located about an hour or two southwest from Denver. The Mount Evans road is known for being the highest paved road in the coutry. When the road opens in the spring, it cost money to repave sections near the peak.
