Quilt Preparation

1. Batting and backing should be a minimum of 4 inches larger on all sides. For example the quilt top is 60 X 60 so batting and backing should be a minimum of 68 X 68.

Please note there are some inexpensive battings that do not work well on the quilting machine.

2. Please do not supply sheets for backing. The higher thread count in many sheets can cause skipped stitches on your quilt.

3. Remove all selvedges from your backing this includes in the seams.

4. Square up your quilt top and your backing.

5. Trim all loose threads. They can get caught in the machine and they may also show through on light fabrics.

6. If you have a pieced border or bias edges on the outside of your quilt it is best to staystitch to provide more stability.

7. Press the top and backing. Seams should be pressed to one side or open.

8. Do not baste or pin your quilt together.

9. Indicate the top and bottom of quilt if there is a difference.

10. If you have selected a pantograph (all over pattern) and have a preference, please specify whether you want the pattern to go vertically or horizontally on the quilt.

11. Fullness and puckers pieced into the quilt top cannot necessarily be quilted out. I will do my best, but quilt tops with these problems, may still have the problems after quilting is complete.

12. If I am applying your binding, please include fabric and specify the desired finished width. Binding is applied using the French-fold method and hand stitched to the back.

13. If you plan to attach the binding yourself, the quilt will not be trimmed after quilting is complete unless requested.

14. If you are shipping your quilt to me, please send it in a box large enough to hold the finished quilt.
