The Zeine-Johnson Family Cats Home Page

Our current herd of cats consists from youngest to oldest...

Cymry, born wild and live trapped. She was one of only 3 survivors in a litter of 6. Hikers noticed the mama cat and her litter of 6. In following hikes they noticed Mama was gone and the kittens were diminishing rapidly. They put out live traps, got both boys the first night and finally caught Cymry 3 days later. She was terrified, skinny and lonely, but hanging in. That same indominatable spirit lives on - she's the terror of the older cats, even now at 3! She's very careful and loving with her "Papa Bigfoot" (probably because he sits on her if she gets rowdy) but is a wild child with Pixel and Dio. When I went to look for kittens, I found loads of sweet hand raised cuddly ones, but tiny, terrified, confused Cymry was "never going to get a home because she isn't friendly, just scared" - so of course, I brought her home. It took 3 days of carrying her with me every minute and petting, cuddling, feeding and loving, but she finally started to purr and snuggle and never looked back. Now she sleeps on my chest every night, rides around on David's shoulder ever day, and is his baby girl. What a character! Here's Cymry at about 3 months old.

Diotima - beautiful calico girl and rescued barn kitty. She was dumped at the feed store at 4 weeks old, and I couldn't leave her there, so home she came. Some Dio pictures, July 1999 (be warned, with so much white in front, some pictures are hard to see definition on! I tried to take them from an angle as much as I could):

Dio lounging on the deck

Dio in the yard, resting during a brief but viscous foray in pursuit of the mighty baling twine, a formidable foe.

Dio taking a brief rest during the battle.

Dio on her favorite perch on the railing of the deck. If you look closely below, you will see a bit of Porthos.

Here is a picture of Bigfoot, our 20 (yes, that's right, TWENTY!) year old Maine Coone - not bad for an old guy!!! He usually has longer hair, but I chopped it off at the start of hot weather.

For your enjoyment:

Pixel on her first night home. A bit fuzzy, but you can see what a cutie she is - she thinks she's tough!

The picture below is, from top, Porthos (who is no longer with us - after beating up foxes, he tried to take on a coyote and we never saw him again - we still miss him.), Pixel, all grown up now and still beautiful. She's the Audrey Hepburn of the family, and on the bottom, Bigfoot.

All 3 cats hanging out on the kitty condo, May 1998. They are (top to bottom) Porthos, Pixel, Bigfoot. You'll note Porthos ended up about 20lb at 2 years old, Pixel about 8lb at 1 year old. Bigfoot is about 16lb at 15 years old.

Porthos, Pixel and Bigfoot - another angle.
