About our chapter

The Columbine Chapter was founded in 1953.  Our current membership numbers 76 women.  Some of us are young and some are not so young; some work outside of the home full time, and some are raising children or are retired.  We come from all parts of the country.  We welcome as prospective members women over the age of 18 who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence through military, civil, or patriotic service.  For more information about the goals of the NSDAR and membership requirements, please visit our National Society's web site.

Our chapter, like all NSDAR chapters, is governed by elected officers.  These are the Chapter Regent, First and Second Vice Regents, Chaplain, Secretary, Registrar, Historian, and Librarian.  Most of our members are involved with one or more of the many committees that carry out the work of the NSDAR, described on the National Society's web site.a columbine plant

Meetings and other activities

The Columbine Chapter meets September through May on the second Saturday of the month.  Guests are always welcome. For more information about joining our chapter, please contact our Regent, Merry Snyder (27thregent@comcast.net).

Each regular meeting consists of a social time with refreshments, patriotic exercises, discussion of business, and a program on such subjects as the Constitution, American history, and genealogy.  We have one or two potluck luncheon meetings a year and a tea for prospective members, usually in August.  Many of our members attend the annual State Conference, and usually several attend Continental Congress, the annual conference of the Society.

Columbine Chapter gives an annual Regent's Tea for new and prospective members and participates in such events as a Good Citizens Tea,  naturalization ceremonies, Flag Day, Independence Day, Constitution Week, and Veterans' Day.  Members help at the annual VA Hospital Christmas party, as well as contributing food, gifts, and money.  We donate books to adult literacy programs and to libraries.  We  also send labels, box tops, jewelry, gifts, and contributions to  the DAR schools for their various fund-raising activities and to Bacone and Chemawa Indian Schools.
