Grand Canyon
Deer Creek (a 52 kB jpeg file).
Right before Deer Creek plummets into the Colorado River, it
has to pass through this slot canyon.
Another, smaller stream flows into the Colorado River through
Elves Chasm. It is a great place to leap from the rocks into the
pool that waits below.
Fluting (a 48 kB jpeg file).
One of the most beautiful effects of the erosion process is
called fluting. Flutes are created when a piece of hard rock gets
trapped in a depression in a softer rock. As the water causes the
hard rock to move back and forth in the depression, it slowly
digs a hole in the softer rock.
