The Colorado Midland frequently operated "Wildflower
Excursions", which were day trips from Colorado Springs to the
Granite Canon / South Park area and return. Fares were relatively low and
they attracted tourists and local residents alike. It was not
uncommon for a professional photographer to ride the trains and make
exposures like the ones pictured here. The finished products were later
offered to the patrons, for a modest fee, of course. These photos
had been mounted in a single folder and a closer examination reveals
that they were taken several seconds (or minutes) apart, as many of the travelers
are in different poses. Perhaps someone wasn't in one of the pictures
and it had to be re-taken. |
