With over six decades in fine arts and textile design, I create pieces rooted in tradition but shaped by contemporary life. My paintings explore color relationships and texture, while my purses are functional art crafted for everyday elegance. And, you need to wear your daughter's heirloom - Maxine
Maxine's desire for creative expression seemed to exist before she picked up her first drawing instrument. In her early childhood her interest in art turned to painting. She trained at the Washington School of Art in Washington, D.C., Loveland Art Academy in Colorado, Scottsdale Art Academy and with David Leffel, Charles Cross, Terry Issac, Rod Frederick, Margaret Kessler, Robert Bateman, and Quang Ho.
Her earliest success came in Florida in the late 1970's with paintings of landscapes, seascapes and birds. There she was commissioned to paint four Florida landscapes by the City of Vero Beach. Many professionals throughout Florida purchased her early works to beautify their offices and homes including the Mayor and the City Attorney of Kissimme, FL. Many residents of Johns Island as well as the Senior Vice President of Yamaha Motor Corporation own her paintings. Her paintings are enjoyed by art lovers from the East to the West Coasts.
In the early 1990s she moved to Colorado and her art evolved to the still life paintings, landscapes, and animals that are her signature today. Still life paintings, her favorite, are in the style of the Old Masters with modern and timeless objects. Her interest in wine has transferred to her art in her newest series "Wine & Companions". Her medium is oil on panel.
She has won numerous awards throughout her long career. These have run the gamut from ribbons in regional art shows to prizes in major competitions. Recognition includes a third place finish in the Duck's Unlimited Stamp Contest for a still life of an antique duck decoy and shotgun, the Winsor Newton Award at the Heritage Fine Art Show, People's Choice Award at The Thompson Art Show, First Place in The Scottsdale Artist School Show, and acceptance into the National Oil & Acrylic Painter's Society Show. Since her participation in the La Quinta Art Festival, CA; Boulder Art show, Evergreen Art Show, Breckenridge Art Festival, Beaver Creek, CO; Bayou City Art Festival, Cottonwood Art Festival, TX; Impressions Gallery and the Turner Art Gallery in Denver, demand for her art has increased among collectors.
Maxine's paintings are noted for not merely recording a scene but for setting a mood. Her great sense of color, combined with her sense of design create the harmony of shapes and light that enchant viewers.
