Medicine, My Jealous Mistress...1/18/80....Thomas M Deas MD ___________________________________________________________ You have camouflaged yourself Though the Centuries with the Occult. You have been mysterious, Shrouded by superstition- Knowledge of half truths- Witches and Charlatans-Yet- You were Exotic!! Though starved through the Ages From lack of Ardent Lovers, You kept your Vigor, your Beauty-Your Intrigue.. Primitive and almost Useless, You became an almost impotent Seductress- Yet, you lived to eventually be nurtured By such adoring Consorts As the Greek, Hippocrates, The Jew, Moses- The Frenchman, Pasteur- The Canadian-American, Osler- And other great men of Science, Along with thousands of those Of lesser Stature-such as I... Who became tantalized by the glimmer of your Light And the infinite possibilities in your Character. You had started to bud as a plant Beginning to bloom- And TODAY!!!You have achieved the true beauty Of your Being! You have relieved much of the suffering In the World- Though stymied, at times, by Excesses and Greed Of the Man you long to heal. Tomorrow-will you blossom Into a beautiful Mature Flower, To bear fruit and the seeds Of Love and Care?? Or-will you be stifled By the impersonal Scientific Methods To TREAT A NUMBER ???? ----------------------------------------------------------- Poem by Thomas M. Deas, M.D. Transcribed by Paul M.
