Inside The Book -

"There are those who would have us believe that no matter what parents do, there are just some children who will turn out bad. It's almost as if they are saying, success is a matter of luck or even worse, a matter of heredity."

"Those who are expecting a quick fix will be disappointed. The problem is far too complex, the solution too profound and the home far too important for us to think it can be quickly fixed."

"With our knowledge of God's word, and the belief that the home does " ... pertain unto life and godliness . . . " we will bait our hook with the power of God and become fishers of men within our own homes."

"Discipline by tyranny doesn't work because it is motivated by selfishness. It is used by fathers who are more concerned about what they want than about what is truly best for their children."

"Looking in retrospect, I can honestly say I would still rather be the father of the victim than of the Bully. Yes, it was painful to have to watch him suffer at the hands of these boys, but the pain for the parents of the Bully doesn't end that easily. They usually have to face many tragic years in dealing with their child who obviously has something wrong with him, something missing."

"'I never knew how it was going to be with her when I came home from school because of Mom's moods.' I heard such statements from more than one person, from more than one home. In just about every case, the mood of the mother was not because the children had done anything wrong. The children were simply made scapegoats for other things that were bothering the mother."

These are Thirteen Lesson Adult Bible Study Guides and are designed to be used in an organized Bible Class. Students should not be satisfied with simply answering the questions presented at the end of each lesson. These discussion questions are written with the hope that the students, as well as the teacher, will have prepared themselves before coming to class. Of course this preparation must include the study of the Bible as well as the written material in this book. As you will notice, there are several scriptures referred to in each lesson. The student cannot be totally prepared unless time is taken to read and consider every one of these scriptures. It is also strongly recommended that the Bible class teacher remind the students to review prior lessons as the study continues.

Unless otherwise noted, the New International Version of the Bible will be used in any direct quote. However, students are encouraged to use a variety of versions both in their personal studies and in class.

"The Blessing of Church Discipline" $4.95 plus postage

"Ron Carter has produced an excellent book dealing with the need and process of church disciple. His approach is positive, as reflected in the title, The Blessing of Church Discipline

Ron is a counselor, the editor of the Rocky Mountain Christian Newspaper, a retired minister and church elder. This background uniquely qualifies him to write this material.

As a practicing counselor, he is aware of both the traditional methods and the current research being done in this field. As an experienced pulpit preacher, he is Biblically oriented in his approach to the subject. Having served as an elder, he has demonstrated a 'shepherd's heart.' He upholds discipline, not as a legalistic ritual, but as the supreme act of Christian love.

The style and format, as well as the content, of this book make it useful for Bible classes. It is not cluttered with technical language or bogged down in theoretical controversy. It is easy to read. It is grounded in Biblical authority, with chapter and verse given for every important point It is designed for classroom use and will be a valuable tool of instruction for adult Bible classes in a congregation.

This book comes out at a crucial time in our brotherhood. The atheistic world and false religion could not stop the church from the outside, but there is a danger of the church being apostatized from the inside. The book expressed clearly what Jesus said to the church at Laodicea: Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline.
