Awards

Nominate someone for an adult recognition//link to Adult Recognition Form updated 12 Nov 2004

In an effort to recognize truly outstanding contributions by individuals, families, community groups, and corporations, the Council asks for nominations of those who have made major contributions affecting the lives of girls. Tell the Council who they are by completing the appropriate forms and returning them to the Adult Recognitions Committee.

Service Unit Awards require service unit approval. These awards are Outstanding Leader and Outstanding Volunteer.

Outstanding Leader Award is for registered troop/group leaders and co-leaders and recognizes outstanding troop leadership qualities in the delivery of Girl Scout program to girls.

Outstanding Volunteer Award-Service Unit recognizes outstanding service by a registered volunteer other than a leader that benefits a service unit or program delivery unit.

Council and National Awards require board (or board designee) approval. These awards are: Community Awards, Appreciation Pin, Wagon Wheel Pin, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge, Thanks Badge II, and President's Award.

Community Awards are for outstanding support to Girl Scouting from an individual or group. This award is a great way to say thank you to individuals or businesses in your community who support your troop or service unit through sponsorship, small cash donations, or providing a meeting place. The Adult Recognition Committee determines if a certificate, walnut plaque, or laser plaque will be awarded based on magnitude and duration of support and previous community awards received. Individuals or groups receiving this recognition do not have to be registered Girl Scout members.

The Appreciation Pin, a national award, is presented to registered adults who have given outstanding service above the expectations required by the position(s) they have held and delivered to at least one geographic service unit or program delivery audience.

The Wagon Wheel Pin, is our coucils own award. It is presented to registered adults who have given outstanding service about the expectations required by the position(s) they have held and delivered to at least two or more geographic service units or program delivery audiences.

The Honor Pin, a national award, is presented to registered adults in recognition of exceptional service having a positive influence on the Council goals and activities of young women, delivered to two or more geographic service units or program delivery audiences.

The Thanks Badge is given only once and recognizes adult members of the Girl Scouts of the USA
who have given service that is so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other
award is appropriate and benefits the total council or the entire Girl Scout movement.
The Thanks Badge is a GSUSA National Award.

The Thanks Badge II - for Continuing Service - recognizes an adult member who has already
received the Thanks Badge and, since receipt, has continued to contribute service that is
outstanding and so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award is
appropriate and which benefits the total council or entire Girl Scout movement.
The Thanks Badge II is also a GSUSA National Award.

The President's Award, a national award, recognizes the efforts of a geographic area team or program delivery team in moving its assigned area or audience toward achievement of the Council's goals during a fiscal or membership year. Members of the service unit team submit an application for the award to the adult recognition committee documenting completion of the criteria and their results.
