I have reason to believe that the data in my tax return has been
corrupted. My user ID is xxxxxx. I'm in the "review" phase. The error is in
Schedule A, "Missing Data: Description or amount at other taxes." I press
the "Click and Fix" button and am put at line 8 of Schedule A. But line 8
is a calculated field (gray). It's empty. I've tried several things. (I
have a degree in Computer Science and Engineering.) I'm stuck! Please
advise.
-----------------------------------
Our Response:

Thank you for contacting Block Financial Software.

The error you describe comes from having made an entry in the
mini-worksheet above line 8 in Schedule A, for "other taxes" (b).

No, I don't think I did.

If you made an entry there, the amount is carred down to Line 8 and
included in the totals in line 9. TaxCut will then ask you to write in the
description in the first field in line 8, to describe what type of "other
taxes" were entered in (b) above. The same holds true if you entered an
amount for "other taxes" on the Rentals and Royalties Worksheet (line 13,
that is carried to line 8(a) of Schedule A. Another source of this entry
is at K-1, line 11(a) or line 17(e). So if there are any amounts in the
mini-worksheet above line 8, then you need to provide a description of what
kind of "other taxes" those are (such as, property taxes).

Changing entries in the online program is a bit tricky. See the
instructions below for how to change your entries.

FORM view -- change entries or delete forms:

To change entries in your online TaxCut program, do the following:
Click on the PREPARE tab at the top, then click on the FORMS button on the
lower right.
You will see a list of forms. To see only the forms with data in them,
check the "Show only forms with data" box.
Forms with green check marks have information in them.
Find the form you need to change entries in.
Click the "to-edit" link to the left. This will open the form.
Click on the entry you wish to change. Click the delete button on your
keyboard.
Click on Refresh and Save at the top.
Now, enter the correct information. Again, click on Refresh and Save.
Now Close and Save your return.

If you need to delete forms:
While in the FORMS view, click the "to-edit" link to the left of the form
you wish to delete.
With the form open, click the DELETE button at the top, then click SAVE.
The form may still appear in the forms list, but with a grey checkmark.
Save and Close your return. When you reopen it, and go to FORMS view, the
deleted form should no longer be listed in the "show only forms with data"
view.
Understand, if you open a form to look at it, you have effectively created
that form in your return and will have to delete it if you dont need it.

I ran out of paper while printing my tax forms. I must have bumped a key,
because instead of allowing me to add paper, my PC canceled the job. I was
about 50 pages into an 87-page printout. It would have been nice to have a
feature in your print utility to enable me to resume.
-----------------------------------
Our Response:

Thank you for contacting H&R Block Technical Support.

We are not sure why your tax return would be 87 pages long.

Because I wanted to print everything -- my copies and the ones to
mail.

You do have the option of selecting what forms you want printed out. For
example, if you are needing the last few forms printed out, just select
those forms to be printed.

When you are in the "TCPrint.exe" window, under the words "What to print",
select the round button next to "Selected Forms" and then the round button
next to "My forms". Scroll down on the right side window (if scrolling is
necessary) to find the forms listed. Look at the words above the little
Forms window to see if the "Estimated Pages:" equals the right amount of
pages to ensure you have just those pages selected.

By chance we are including instructions for using the Print Utility to
ensure you are using the Print Utility to print out your forms.

Below are some additional instructions to assist you in printing out your
forms. Make sure to disable all background programs running on your
computer including virus protection programs. This will help ensure an
uncorrupted download.

To get a print out of your file:
  Access your account
  Select the "File" tab
Select the "Paper" button at the lower right corner
Now you will need to download the Printer Utility.
Enter your payment information for using the program ( remember the $9.95
includes printing and e-filing so you are not being charged for both).

- Click the "Download Print Utility for Windows 95, etc." button.
- Save the download program (setup.exe) to disk ( your Hard drive) in the
default directory, taxprint99.
- When you are finished downloading, install the printing utility by
Double-clicking on the "setup.exe" file and follow the installation
instructions.

If you haven't already entered your payment information, go to the File tab
and enter your credit card information. Use the "next" button to get to the
screen with the words Click "Download your Tax Data File", and click on
this link. It will now ask you where to save the datafile. Save to disk (
it will actually be your hard disk ). When you download your data file, it
will download "mytaxes.t99" to the default location in your C:
drive. Instead, try downloading "mytaxes.t99" to your Desktop. You may have
to use the Browse button to locate the path to your Desktop. Also rename
the file "mytaxes.t99" to something else for example "sunny.t99" or
"happy.t99" or any name will do.

If the Print Utility downloaded to your computer successfully, you should
be able to find the file "TCPrint.exe".

Double left click on the "My Computer" icon on your Desktop.
Double left click on the "C: drive" icon .
Double left click on the folder "Taxprint99".
Double left click on the file "TCPrint.exe".

Another way to find the "TCPrint.exe" file is to use the find folder
program. Go to your "Start" button on taskbar. Choose "Find", then "Files
or Folders". A window will pop up. Enter "TCPrint.exe" in box next to
"Named". Make sure that in the box "Look in", it says "C:". Now click
"Find". It will try to find that file and when it does, double click on it
to open it. If it is not showing up then you may not have downloaded it
yet.

After you have found and double clicked on "TCPrint.exe", a window will
open for you. Make sure the printer listed is correct and if not choose
"Select Printer" and change printer. IMPORTANT, choose "Select File" to
direct the program to look for your datafile to be printed. This datafile
will be the name of your saved return followed by .t99 or by default
"mytaxes.t99". In what to print, if you are e-filing you will need the form
8453-OL. Click on the "Selected Forms", then "My forms", find and click
next to the form 8453-OL.

Make sure you click "Select File" to locate the datafile to be printed. If
you do not select the Taxfile (your saved return name with the extension
.t99 or mytaxes.t99 ) after clicking on the "Select File", you will see an
error message to "Please select a taxcut dataset". If you still can not
find your datafile, use the find folder program. Go to your "Start" button
on taskbar. Choose "Find", then "Files or Folders". A window will pop
up. Enter "( your save file's name.t99 or mytaxes.t99 )" in box next to
"Named". Make sure that in the box "Look in", it says "C:". If you see your
saved file, datafile, write down the path name and go back and click the
"Select File" button and use the "browse" button to look for the datafile
you found or just type in the path name you wrote down.

If you are still having problems downloading, e-mail us again with
information on what is happening when you are trying to download the data
file. Make sure you downloaded the Print Utility first. If you did, did it
load OK? Indicate what errors if any you see when trying to download the
datafile. Are you choosing to save it to disk ( your hard drive )?

Thank you for contacting Block Financial Software.

Most of the "request_invalid" responses from the submit a question page

reason, certain characters "such as the + sign in your email address" have
returned as an unrecognized email address format. We suggest using a free

[Part 1 of 2] I'm trying to e-file, and I get this error: "Inconsistency:

didn't enter any amounts for restricted stock dividend adjustments, but I
clicked to fix it and was shown something I don't understand, nor is it in
my personal records that I used to enter the original data. The form is
Schedule B - Copy 1. My credit union interest and ordinary dividends are
correct, but there is a line labeled 'SUBTOTAL' for $xxxxxx and another
line labeled "DIVIDENDS ON RESTRICTED STOCK" for -$xxxxxx. I received
1099-DIV statements totaling $xxxxxx for ordinary dividends, which is what
I entered. I know that I also own restricted stock through my company's
stock purchase plan, but I couldn't find an entry on my W-2 indicating that
I had an adjustment for dividends on restricted shares.

Thank you for contacting Block Financial Software.

We will need some additional information from you to get your problem
resolved. Specifically, we need the specific line and forms you are
referring to, the exact error code you may have received, the program and
version that you are using, and the properties of your computer. Please try
not to abbreviate as we may not understand your question. Thank you for
your patience.

First of all, I was very specific about where the problem. As for
the nits about the program version and my computer properties -- Why aren't
you specific? And I'm supposed to submit all this to the black hole
of your Web form? I don't think so...

Please return to www.taxcut.com, hrblock.com and submit a new question
containing the additional information. We will have a supervisor look up
your DCN and send the DCN to you by e-mail.

[Part 2 of 2] Since to my knowledge I have no restricted dividend
adjustment, I tried to override the offending line using the Field
Information dialog. Even though the entry now says it's overridden to $0,
$-xxxxxx still appears on the Dividend Summary form. Then I tried following
the "Comes From" selection to the Dividend Summary Line and overriding
THAT, but the same problem occurs as with the first one I tried. I have a
degree in Computer Science and Engineering, but I'm perplexed. I don't
understand why the numbers would be canceled out like this, and I don't
understand why your program won't allow me to override the field. Please
advise. Sincerely, Tim Chambers
