For details of experience of my work as program manager for Open Source and Linux Technical Knowledge Management at HP, request my résumé.
Developed and executed strategy and tactics to improve quality and
productivity of hardware and software product developers. Supervised
technical and clerical staff and one supervisor of six highly skilled
printed circuit board (PCB) designers.
- Led the introduction and implementation of a pioneering
networking technology that made new, more effective ways of doing
business possible. Earned special commendation from company
management.
- Led the development of a standard software lifecycle and
championed its adoption by project teams, resulting in improved
tactical
planning during product development.
- Led the evolution of a software development environment from
current generation technology to cutting-edge technology,
revolutionizing the way the product development engineers performed
their jobs and enabling the department to deliver software products
that
otherwise would have been impractical to create.
- Led printed circuit board (PCB) design group to cut design
turnaround time in half using advanced CAD and process improvements.
- Established sound asset inventory control practices that saved
$100,000 in write-offs in one year.
Presentations / Publications
Technical
Quality assurance engineering
for Linux on HP Integrity servers.
Earned special commendation from company management.
- Pioneered creation of documentation of test procedures
and day-to-day operations. Authored and publicized a department web
page containing the most relevant "tips & tricks," leading to
recognition
as a local expert.
- Facilitated training for and taught selected modules to new
hires, enabling optimal "ramp-up" to make them productive
on the QA team.
- Executed test suites, analyzed results, and submitted defects
against Red Hat and SUSE distributions, which measurably
improved the quality of HP's Itanium®-based Integrity server
products.
- Recommended policies and procedures that improved the return on
investment of QA processes.
Software process engineering
with Rational Software's ClearCase
product on Unix and
Microsoft Windows 2000 to support C++ product development.
- Designed, implemented, tested, and deployed solutions in Perl that improved the productivity of
engineers and managers, including (1) a comprehensive process layer on
top of the ClearCase configuration management system; (2) detection,
prevention, and analysis of problems in a complex, distributed system;
and (3) software metrics collection, analysis, and presentation.
- Developed strategy and tactics for large-scale software system
builds and releases, contributing to the business unit's reputation for
meeting schedules within one week of formal commitments. Earned
special commendation from company management.
- Conceived, designed, implemented, tested, and deployed a
sophisticated
process automation tool called the Stepping
Engine in object-oriented Perl for Unix and Microsoft Windows 2000,
which improved quality and productivity so that only half as many days
were needed to perform weekly software releases.
- Designed, implemented, and tested a Perl CGI
script that improved the quality and productivity of tasked engineers
who interact with Agilent's defect management system.
- Designed and maintained department intranet web site. Organized
documents to make all relevant information no more than two
clicks away from home page. Created "web faces" for selected
CLI tools. Applied web technologies relevant to the task,
including CGI forms.
Software product engineering
- Conceived and executed the project to port the X Window System
function library Xlib to the HP 16500B Logic Analysis System, which
enhanced the product's competitive advantage in a dimension unforeseen
by
the rest of the organization.
- Created a toolset in Perl that significantly reduced the risk and
time required for translations of ASIC model libraries. Earned
special commendation from company management.
- Designed, implemented, and tested the text command language and
interface
code in C/C++ for an ASIC compiler/emulator,
laying a significant piece of the foundation for the product's
architecture.
- Led the design of the C++ class hierarchy for mapping faults for
a proprietary fault-tolerant FPGA. Implemented and
tested the
base class from which all fault map tests were derived.
- Created an OSF/Motif X Windows graphical user interface (GUI) for
HP's cross-debugger product line.
- Synthesized a complete Motorola 68040 cross-debugger/simulator
from existing code written in C and enhancements to a simulator
of Motorola 68000-series microprocessors. Designed,
