Lamentation on denying one's imagination

I recently listened to a recording of a gathering of skeptics. They expressed such bafflement and furrowed brows at people who hold to beliefs of various kinds. With frustrated wonder they cried out, "How can people have beliefs!? If only they used reason and believed only facts for which solid evidence can be produced!" And I concluded: how sad it is to live life denying one's imagination. For only with imagination -- envisioning that which is not (yet) visible or tangible -- can one achieve truly great results that change the world. They have imagination, yet they seem to be embarrassed by it.
