Different Cultures, Different Selves
I just discovered an amazing podcast titled, “Different Cultures, Different Selves.” It’s a fascinating discussion of two very different ideas of how people view themselves. It contrasts American (and, to some extent, European) individualism with Asian interdependence. I highly recommend it. You can read about the show at philosophytalk.org. It’s only about a year old. You can listen directly off that web page, or contact me and I'll send you a copy of the mp3.
It’s rare that I find a resource this valuable. I hope you’ll consider spreading the word of its existence.
I’m a philosophical autodidact, so if you want to talk about the podcast in more detail, I have some strong opinions. For example, I think they missed some profound points, and they simplify too much. They spend so much time on either/or that the both/and aspects of the spectrum get drowned out. (At least, that's true for the first 30 minutes or so. I'm blogging about it before I finish.) Call/txt me at +1 719.357.7822. Or post a comment.
