Music is God's voice

Old news, I know. But good things are worth the wait. I'm having a transcendental musical experience. Brian Wilson (supervising Joe Gastwirt) remastered a stereo mix of Pet Sounds. So I ordered the CD. No lame iTunes store experience for me. $6.99 at yourmusic.com, no tax, free shipping. This is how albums should be bought. All 13 tracks in mono, then bonus CD track Hang On To Your Ego, then Pet Sounds in stereo. I'm not familiar with it. I only know Beach Boys from Endless Summer (a compilation vinyl album). But Wilson says he heard Rubber Soul by The Beatles and wanted to compete. And Sir George Martin, Beatles producer, says "Without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper wouldn't have happened... Pepper was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds." Wow. I'm in for a treat today. Ripping it now.

"What's kept me going is the same things that got me to write Surfin' all those years ago. I wanted to write joyful music that made other people feel good. Music that helps and heals, because I believe that music is God's voice." -- Brian Wilson, 1988 | Source: Pet Sounds CD liner notes
