Sync Google Chrome everywhere
I continue to be impressed by Google's products. (Hard not to be, since they are still giving them all away for free.) I chose Google Chrome when I was using Google Wave. I figured they would have the best integration. I'm still rooting for Mozilla Firefox, but Google makes it so easy to run anywhere that they have me hooked. After you install Google Chrome, you're encouraged to import your bookmarks. But if you already drank the Google Kool-Aid, then there seems to be a gap in Google's help. They don't tell you the secret to setting up sync. I had to figure it out on my own.
You have to log into your Google account in a browser window in your new Chrome browser. I couldn't get it to work any other way. Once you've logged in, create an application-specific password. (You do have 2-step authentication turned on, don't you? Take advantage of that. It's a much smarter approach than the Yahoo! "secret image" approach.)
How's it working for you? I'd love to know. If I'm mistaken about having to log in from the new browser, please set me straight. Maybe they fixed that. But I've been through this routine several times this week already. (There's my work computer, then there's my VirtualBox Linux installation on my work computer, then there's my RDP server, and then I have all my personal devices. That's fodder for a future blog post. Who expected that we'd connect to the internet from so many clients all at once?)
