PROJECT BACKGROUND
There are 6,000 newly planted seedling trees located along a mile stretch of Forest Road 211 above Cheesman Resavoir
in Douglas County. The trees are less than 5 inches tall at this point. Because of the rainy summer, weeds
and grass have grown up around the trees. The weeds are much taller than the trees and are chokeing them.
WHAT IS TO BE DONE
If nothing is done, essentially all 6,000 trees will die. This
project's goal is to save the trees. The trees can be saved by
clearing a 3 foot radius circle around each of the seedlings of weeds and
grass. If this can be done, then by the next growing season the trees
will be tall enough that they can compete favorably with the grass and weeds
and have an excellent chance of survival.
