Spawn_Chainbar
The change from a clamshell to a cardboard back with a bubble pack and the logo change from Todd Toys to McFarlane Toys are the largest overall package variations for Series 2.

When an accessory or sticker is referred to as being on the left or right side of a bubble pack, the reference point is from the perspective of looking directly at the front of an unopened figure.

The McFarlane Toys logo is located to the upper right on the front of the card.

Small Metal Rivets were used for the first 4 shipments to help keep the bubble and figure attached to the cardboard back. These rivets were later dropped in lieu of a stronger glue.

Each Series 2 figure with the “Todd Toys” Logo on their card came with a small Promotional Flyer showing the SPAWN Series 1 and Series 2 Figures, the Series 1 and Series 2 Vehicles, and the “SPAWN Alley” Playset. A short biography of Todd McFarlane was also included on this Flyer. The Flyers were located under the front cardboard piece that had the Spawn Logo and Instructions for the figure on it, and the Flyer was packed inbetween the inner and outer Bubble packs. These Flyers displayed the “Todd Toys” Logo and were pulled from the figures when “Todd Toys” became “McFarlane Toys.”

I have been made aware of a small variation concerning the front cardboard piece with the Spawn Logo and Instructions for the Figure on it. Some figures have this card inbetween the figure bubble and the ouside bubble- making the Instruction Card impossible to peel off.

There are no confirmed Series 2 variations with this package anomaly, and I am still collecting data for this variant. I will post the results as soon as I have enough information. If you have photos or reports of any Series 2 figures with this package variation, please contact me via the Mail Icon on the Master List Homepage.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A LIST ENTRY:

COMMANDO SPAWN
COMMANDO SPAWN was the FIRST figure where a variation on the Weapons, rather than the figure itself, seemed to matter more to seasoned SPAWN figure collectors. 2nd Edition (with 7-20 Large Black Speckles on the Guns) still fetches premium prices from SPAWN enthusiasts. Also, when the Series 2 Repaints were released, only COMMANDO SPAWN’S Guns were changed- from Silver plastic to Gold plastic. COMMANDO SPAWN came with 2 Guns (one with a spring-loaded missle launcher and one without), 2 Knives and a removable headpiece that swivled down over his left eye.

Approximately 700 genuine variants are known to exist. This variation can be VERY easy to fake, since all is needed is some paint thinner (to erase the speckles off of the Guns on a later release), Black paint, and good card glue. If you spot one, make sure the figure has True White accents. Later release figures did not have True White paint on their bodies, therefore they could not have the special guns. Then, inspect the bubble and rivets THOROUGHLY, as this is the most difficult part to fake on this variation.

ANGELA A subtle package variation creates a few different versions of ANGELA. There is a Promotional Sticker on the Left Front side of the outer-bubble that says "From America's Best Selling Comic Book” that covered ANGELA’S Sword accessory. The inner-bubble ANGELA was packaged in was altered so that her Sword would be fully visible, rather than the sticker covering it. The reason why the location of the sticker was not altered (which probably would have been easier to do instead of re-sculpting a bubble pack) is unknown. ANGELA also has no apparent SET release/fix history, as several versions were released with early variation characteristics late in the Series 2 run. ANGELA came with a Sword and removable Sword belt, as well as a Staff that had a spring-loaded, launching Tip. And, as always, ANGELA RULES!
